Jai Nanda Lok Kala Uthan Samiti is a Government registered Folk Dance Group that has been spreading Kumaoni Culture for more than 25 years all over India like Delhi,Haryana,Punjab,Rajasthan,Bihar, Madhya Pradesh,Pondecherry,Sikkim,Orissa,Tripura,Kerela,Maharashtra,Gujrat etc.
Some of the Folk Dance forms the group performs are :
Cholia Dance(known and performed as Pooran Bora and Group)
Kisaan Dance
Chapeli Dance
Hudiyaball/Jhodachancheri Folk Dance
Gadwali Ghasyari Dance.
Cholia is a traditional folk dance of Kumaon.The main purpose of this dance deals with human body strong for war.This dance follows a unique format which comprises a Red Flag also known as 'Nishaan' at the beginning followed by local precussion instruments like dhols,nagaras and dancers showing their acrobatic skills using swords and sheilds.
Now the dance is performed and enjoyed in festive occasions like holi,diwali,marriages etc.
The Group Jai Nanda and Lok Kala Samiti is owned by Mrs Bimla Bora.
Some of milestones achieved by the group are :
1-The group trained 150 students of Navodaya Vidyalaya in 2001 ,who with the group performed Cholia Dance and got 1st prize among all the teams from India.
2-Won the Cholia Nritya Mahotsav held in October 2000 Pithoragarh among 34 other teams.
